Our consultants - lecturers at a second seminar in Varna

Consultants from Fortis Visio were lecturers at a second seminar on “The role of municipalities in waste management under the Waste Management Act”. This time the seminar was held in Varna on 30.05.2013 and was attended by deputy mayors, heads of environmental directorates, environmental specialists and ecologists from several municipalities. Along with the presentation of the new provisions of the Waste Management Act and a detailed review of the responsibilities of local authorities in waste management, the seminar again featured interesting discussions of specific case studies from municipal practice. The participants also discussed the likely obstacles they foresaw in designing and introducing measures to achieve the national targets for recovery and for minimising the landfilling of waste from the various waste streams. Success in meeting these targets will depend on the proper allocation of obligations among all municipalities and on cooperation between them in order to reach the targets and introduce a sustainable waste management model at local level.
