New platform for surveying the health condition of trees

Tree Doctor is the first platform in Bulgaria for assessing the health condition of trees in urban environments, resulting from the project “Increasing the innovation capacity of the enterprise through the development of an innovative service for surveying and assessing the health condition of trees”, financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and Operational Programme “Innovation and Competitiveness” 2014-2020. The project beneficiary is Fortis Visio. Trees are assessed using the Rinntech instruments – Arbotom and Resistograph. These instruments detect internal cavities, decay processes and deviations from the parameters normal for a healthy tree. The platform contains a list of the most common tree species in Bulgaria, with information on their biology and ecology, identification and distribution. A list with information on the various diseases, pests and other damage affecting tree species in the country is also available.

In Tree Doctor, authorised users can assess the condition of trees by filling in a form with key information about the tree concerned, and citizens can report a tree in poor health. The report will be sent to the responsible institutions. Very soon, everyone will be able to map urban trees on the platform.
